Sur ma ferme…

First graders just finished up their farm unit, where we learned about what animals are on the farm and the sounds they make in French.  We incorporated food that is found on the farms.  We also learned about describing the animals and practiced our numbers.  Below is an example of the “pop-up” book we created.

2nd Grade at Listening Centers

Second graders worked with the listening centers this week.  We had three stories that we listened to:  Qu’est-ce qu’il y a au zoo?, Il ne faut pas habiller les animaux, Les Monstre: Le pique-nique au zoo.  The students listened to these stories, which were read and recorded by AP French high school students.  Along with listening to the stories, the students completed various activities for comprehension.

These listening centers were provided to us by the PTO and the Education Foundation NUSS Grant.

Merci Beaucoup to the NUSS Grant Committee!

I would like to extend a grand MERCI BEAUCOUP to the Education Foundation /NUSS Grant Committee.  They awarded the French Elementary program a grant to purchase listening centers for our class.  This will be used by students in 1st through 5th grades.  The Listening Centers will be used in conjunction with our curriculum and will help students learn the language through listening to stories and doing activities.

This project is done with the high school AP French students’ help.  They will be recording stories onto CDs.  This is great practice for the High School students to use French in a real world situation.  We are currently recording the stories.

I am so excited for this opportunity and can’t wait to include this in our curriculum.

Merci Beaucoup to the Richards PTO!

Merci beaucoup to the Richards PTO!  With their help, I was able to purchase a listening center and headphones for our classroom.

With the help of the high school AP French students, we will be creating listening centers.  The high school students will record books onto cds.  With the help of the PTO, the students will be able to listen to French stories and do activities to help with listening and comprehension of the language.

Le chocolat!

In 4th and 5th grade, we molded chocolat in different ways.  In Belgium, chocolate is quite popular, especially around the holidays.  Belgium is well known for their delicious chocolate.  Around the holidays, chocolate is molded in many fun ways.  Our students practiced this art.  Check out our pictures.
